Hatha Yoga>Asana>Siddhasana:

Siddha means adept, perfect, asana means posture. Siddhasana is the posture of the adept. Alternate names of Siddhasana are Swastikasana, Muktasana, Kurmasana and Guptasana.

Procedure :

Sit on the ground and stretch the legs to the front. Place the left heel on the perineum and press firmly. Place the right heel over the penis. Let the right heel press the pubis. Some do this Asana with right heel on the perineum and left heel on the Pubis. Both the heels should in the same line. In the this position right ankle is on the left ankle. Back and neck should be straight. Hands should be in Yoga-mudra or Brahma-mudra. Gaze should be fixed on the point between the eye-brows. Place fingers of the left leg and outer portion of the left foot in between the right calf and thigh. Place the fingers of right foot in between the left calf. Adjust the fingers and legs until you feel comfortable.

Contraindications

Persons with Sciatica should not do this Asana. Some of the ancient texts warns the married people not do this Asana.

Meditation

This Asana is most suitable for meditation and pranayama. This Asana is used for advanced practices of Yoga. It is said in ancient texts on yoga that Siddhasana is greatest of all Asanas. Meditate on the space in between the eye-brows (Ajna chakra) for spiritual purposes.

Benefits

This Asana purifies all the 72,000 Nadis or energy channels of the body. Brain is rejuvenated. Nervous system becomes calm. Practice of this Asana fills the body and mind with peace. This Asana turns the circulation towards the lower part of spinal-cord. As a result lumbar region of the spinal-cord, digestive system and pelvis region are rejuvenated.
